Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is being treated at a mental health facility after a series of strange incidents have his family and his team worried about his well-being.

On Saturday, Griggen was involved in an incident at the Hotel Ivy, where he threatened to shoot hotel employees, according to a police report. No gun was ever found, but police did begin searching for the Pro Bowler after his wife repeatedly called them and reported he was behaving oddly.

Griffen, who didn’t play on Sunday, was eventually located by authorities and put into an ambulance after being restrained by police so medical personnel could treat him.

Prior to this weekend, Griffen had been “explosive, screaming and yelling” at the team facility to the point where he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation by the team.

Griffen, 30, was not arrested and police are no longer investigating the hotel incident.

“We are aware of the situation involving Everson Griffen and certainly concerned by what we have heard,” Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said in a statement Monday night. “We are currently focused on Everson’s well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family.”
