The GOAT Out-duels the Future as Brady and Pats Beat Mahomes and Chiefs

The old dog was able to rely on enough of his tricks to outlast Kansas City 43-40 in New England.

Whether he wins his battle versus time remains to seen, but Tom Brady was able to defeat the future of the NFL on Sunday night at least.

On Sunday Night Football in New England, Brady was able to do just enough to help the Patriots eke out a 43-40 victory over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

Brady passed for 340 yards and a touchdown while running for another score in the win.

The 41-year-old signal caller did have a critical fumble in the second half, but made up for it with a couple key throws. One of those was a fourth-quarter dart to Rob Gronkowski that helped set up Stephen Gostkowski’s game-winning field goal.

Brady’s counterpart, second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes, did his best to dethrone the Patriots and shook off a pair of first-half interceptions to propel his team to some dazzling scores in the second half.

Mahomes ended his night with 352 yards and four touchdowns, and became the first Chief in history to throw for five straight 300-yard passing games.

He also put his name in the New England record books as he was the 24th quarterback in a row under 25 years old to lose in Foxborough during the regular season against the Patriots.

“They had a good game plan,” Mahomes said afterward. “They threw a lot of pressure at us, a lot of different, and I just tried to stay within myself. I missed some throws even when there was pressure that we could have scored on and I feel like as the game went on I just kept making the reads and throwing the ball and I started connecting on the ones later.”

Based on how both teams looked, it seems likely the Patriots (4-2) and Chiefs (5-1), will be meeting again this season, possibly in the AFC Championship game.
