A Russian lawmaker is warning women not to have sex with non-white foreigners during the World Cup.
Tamara Pletnyova, the head of parliament’s committee for families, women, and children, issued the warning because she is concerned about Russian women becoming single mothers to mixed-race children.
Pletnyova made the comment while discussing the “Children of the Olympics,” a term used to describe non-white children conceived during the Moscow Games in 1980, many of whom faced discrimination after being born.
“We must give birth to our children. These (mixed race) kids suffer and have suffered since Soviet times,” Pletnyova said. “It’s one thing if they’re of the same race but quite another if they’re of a different race. I’m not a nationalist, but nevertheless I know that children suffer. They are abandoned, and that’s it, they stay here with mum.”
Another lawmaker, Alexander Sherin, also said foreign fans could bring viruses and banned substances to the tournament and advised Russians to use caution in their interactions with foreigners.
