A few weeks after losing starting quarterback Alex Smith to multiple leg fractures, the Washington Redskins lost backup QB Colt McCoy for the remainder of the 2018 season thanks to a fractured fibula.

The injury occurred during the first half of the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, leaving the Redskins with no other option than to turn to Mark Sanchez.
For those that believe in karma, it was somewhat fitting for a team that declined to sign anthem kneeler Colin Kaepernick but did add domestic abuser Reuben Foster to need to play Sanchez in a meaningful game.
Now at 6-6 after three straight losses, Washington’s once bright playoff hopes have dimmed significantly and having to rely on Sanchez for the remainder of the season won’t make them any brighter.
In relief, Sanchez completed 13 passes for 100 yards, was sacked twice, and threw an interception with no touchdowns.
“This is a tough blow,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “Losing Alex was one thing. He was a great leader, great quarterback. Then Colt finally gets his opportunity and he gets kicked in the leg and breaks it. I’m heartbroken for both of those guys.”
Washington plays the Giants, Jaguars, Titans, and Eagles to close the season and likely won’t finish with a better record than 8-8.
