It would be difficult to argue that Michael Jordan wasn’t the greatest player to ever don an NBA jersey. Yeah, yeah, yeah … Bird, Magic, LeBron. But the difference between him and them? When Jordan says something, we all listen.
Jordan recently sat down for an interview with Cigar Aficionado magazine and had some choice words to say about the superteam era—which has been dominated, at least for two of the last three years, by the Golden State Warriors. “I think it’s going to hurt the overall aspect of the league from a competitive standpoint,” Jordan told the magazine. “You’re going to have one or two teams that are going to be great, and another 28 teams that are going to be garbage. Or they’re going to have a tough time surviving in the business environment.” (Note: Sports Illustrated‘s Ben Golliver tweeted the quote.)
However, it takes one to know one; Jordan was himself on a superteam during the 1995-96 season, which featured Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, among others.
A Hall of Famer, Jordan is currently the owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
