A former NFL defensive star who used to stop opposing wide receivers is now using his talents to shut down criminal offenders.

Former Chicago Bear Charles “Peanut” Tillman, who retired from the NFL in 2016, graduated the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s training academy and is now working as an agent, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Tillman started training to join the FBI in September 2017.

When FBI agents start with the bureau, they are placed in a two-year probationary period which allows them to learn the ropes and have a variety of experiences.

The former defensive back earned a criminal justice degree from Louisiana-Lafayette, but has ties to law enforcement that date back even longer. His father was a sergeant in the United States Army.

Tillman, 38, played 12 of his 13 NFL seasons with the Bears. In his final season in the league, he played for Carolina and helped the Panthers to a 15-1 record and a Super Bowl berth.

While playing cornerback, Tillman forced 44 fumbles during his career, nearly twice as many as the next closest defensive back during his time in the league.

During his career, Tillman earned two Pro Bowl nods, won the NFL’s Salute to Service award in 2012, and was named the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2013.
