Dak Prescott Ripped By Raider for Anthem Protest Comments

Prescott said in an interview the anthem isn't "the time or the venue" for players to protest.

Days after Cowboys executives said players would stand for the anthem or risk being cut, Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott stood by his employers.

In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Prescott said the anthem protests are a distraction from the game of football which is why he never chooses to protest.

“I never protest during the anthem, and I don’t think that’s the time or the venue to do so,” Prescott said. “The game of football has always brought me such peace, and I think it does the same for a lot of people – a lot of people playing the game, a lot of people watching the game, a lot of people who have any impact of the game – so when you bring such controversy to the stadium, to the field, to the game it takes away. It takes away from that, it takes away from the joy and the love that football brings a lot of people.”

Prescott’s comments didn’t sit well with Oakland Raiders linebacker Tahir Whitehead and he took to Twitter to question the motivations behind why Prescott said what he did.

It would be interesting to see whether Whitehead would give Prescott any extra attention on the field, but unfortunately, the Raiders and Cowboys don’t face each other this season.

Regardless don’t expect this sort of divide between players, coaches, and fans to be resolved unless the NFL can find a way to fix its national anthem policy once and for all.
