In 1967, a 20-year-old David Jones changed his name to avoid being confused with the lead singer of The Monkees. David Bowie was born.

Fifty years since the release of Bowie’s debut album, photographer Gerald Fearnley captures a musical icon at the start of his career in Bowie Unseen: Portraits of an Artist as a Young Man.

In Fearnley’s studio, you can see a young Bowie experiment with looks that would eventually become Ziggy Stardust.
