Former Pink Floyd frontman, bassist, and co-lead songwriter Roger Waters—the brains behind bestselling rock albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall—will be releasing a brand-new album of material.
While the album, Is This the Life We Really Want, lands on June 2, there’s a taste available right now.
The album’s latest single, “Déjà Vu”—not to be confused with the David Crosby–penned Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young track of the same name—will remind listeners, at least in its opening bars, of another one of Waters’ greatest compositions: Pink Floyd’s politically charged “Mother” from The Wall.
In fact, the track, which is rife with Floydian found-noises like the snippet of a maniacal chuckle, a cataclysmic crash, and what sounds like a radio announcement, could be mistaken for a Wall outtake. And it might just be by fans who catch him on his latest “Us + Them” tour, which the rock legend promises on his website will “be a mixture of stuff from my long career, stuff from my years with Pink Floyd, some new things. Probably 75 percent of it will be old material and 25 percent will be new, but it will be all connected by a general theme.”
