Beyoncé released a new music video for her track Freedom yesterday in honor of International Day of the Girl. The video shows young women and girls dancing and lip-syncing to the track in locations all around the world. It also shows statistics about the issues and challenges girls face, such as child marriage, HIV, not being able to receive an education, and human trafficking, according to Elle.
In the Facebook post containing the video (see above), Beyoncé wrote, “Today is #DayoftheGirl. Girls around the world are fighting for their freedom every day. Join me, Chime for Change, and The Global Goals by taking action for #FreedomForGirls now.”
The video first premiered at an event last month hosted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation called Goalkeepers. Melinda Gates is a global advocate for women and girls and has written about helping girls reach their potential for Elle.
The video was directed by M.J. Delaney and produced by UNICEF, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Project Everyone, reports Elle. The end of the video contains instructions on where to donate and contribute to causes that help girls.
Beyoncé is known for using her music to raise awareness about causes she cares about. She recently provided vocals for a new version of J Balvin and Willy William’s Mi Gente, and said that all proceeds would go to hurricane relief charities, according to Elle.
