Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo and ride-hailing service Lyft went out for a Sunday drive together, all in the mutually beneficial journey to compete with Uber.
Per the The New York Times, the two companies will be collaborating on bringing autonomous car technology to market, something global ride-hailing juggernaut Uber has been testing extensively in recent months.
It’s a win-win for both companies, as Lyft has a lot of catching up to do with Uber in terms of marketshare, and Waymo is in the middle of a lawsuit with Uber over allegedly stolen trade secrets.
That, and the autonomous vehicle market is set to be a multi-billion-dollar one soon enough, and partners will need to be picked to do-si-do with Uber.
