There’s Nike FlyKnit, and then there’s Adidas Fishing Net. On World Oceans Day, Adidas announced a limited edition running shoe made with reclaimed fishing nets. Only 50 of the “adidas x Parley” shoes were produced and will be given away to winners of a video contest. The shoe is a project in conjunction with Parley the Oceans, a non-profit organization raising awareness to protect marine life through artistic collaborations.

The material came from over 44.7 miles of fishing net intercepted from illegal fishermen in the South Pacific. The “adidas x Parley” was produced using Adidas’ innovative method Tailored Fiber Technology, which allows footwear designs to be tailored to the individual needs of any athlete. The shoe is the first in a series of products Adidas will release using Parley’s plastic from used nets. Learn more information here, or watch the video below.
