Morgan’s Inspiration Island in San Antonio is a just opened $17-million water park. But it’s not just any water park.

Recognizing that people with “special needs are sometimes left out,” creator Gordon Hartman sought to make it uniquely inclusive.

WQAD News 8 reports that accessibility is a cause that strikes home with Hartman, as his own 23-year-old daughter, Morgan, “deals with both cognitive and physical challenges.”

Features of Morgan’s Inspiration Island include quiet areas for those overwhelmed by crowds, waterproof wheelchairs that use compressed air instead of batteries, and, in the case of the river boat adventure, a ride that can be accessed without using wheelchair ramps.

Admission is free for those with disabilities.
