GQ has issued an “apology” to Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae and Sarah Silverman for the cover of their comedy issue. The satirical letter is commenting on the many seemingly-unattached arms and legs floating around on the cover, next to a blurb that reads: “Hands Down, Our Best Comedy Issue Ever!”

The cover is a sly reference to Vanity Fair’s recent photoshoot mishap with Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey.
GQ writes that their intention was to “celebrate the three super-funny superstars, who are all that is smart and perceptive and riotous and necessary in comedy right now.” They continue, saying they “deeply regret that the results violated GQ‘s rigorous standards of editorial excellence and the laws of nature.”
As for the readers, GQ apologizes to them as well, and know they must work hard to “earn back” trust. But for now, GQ will be “ignoring [their] mentions.”
