Unveiled in July at the British Open at Royal Troon, Mercedes’ luxury golf cart truly shows the power and reach of social media. The Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Cart came about after cart designer Garia’s co-founder answered Mercedes’ open call on Facebook for “golf cart of the future” pitches. Three years later, the two companies collaborated on an electric vehicle that transfers the unmistakable Mercedes design idiom to a premium-class golf cart. Of late, the German automaker has been collaborating on non-car-related projects such as boats and aircraft interiors, so it’s only natural that it’s moved on to the sports category.

Nearly every possible amenity one could need for the golf course is packed into this seven-foot-long cart.  The two-seater has a fridge tucked underneath its bench, a 10-inch touchscreen for displaying scorecards and course layouts, and rear spoiler that also functions as a bag holder. Additionally, the vehicle comes loaded with Bluetooth speakers. Many of the cart’s electronic functions—windscreen wipers, a heater, and headlights (which have chrome inlays)—can also be controlled from the touch console.

Giving it the touches of a luxury sports car, Mercedes designed an all-leather interior for the cart, with woodgrain details. Besides the stowaway cup and ball holders, the cart has a carbon-fiber roof and rolls on 14-inch wheels. Designed to look like a Mercedes automobile, not surprisingly, it drives like one, too. The electric engine has an output of three kilowatts (“eco mode”) but can unleash eleven kilowatts (“sports mode”) through the touchscreen controls. With a payload of more than 1,000 pounds, the cart can drive as fast as 18 mph and travel as far as 50 miles on a single charge, which requires six hours for a full one.

Garia will be releasing two versions of the Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Golf Cart: a two-seater and four-seater. The latter is already for sale here and costs $23,196, without some of the luxury amenities. The higher-end two-seater has not been brought to market yet, but one would expect a more luxurious model to come at a premium price. See the cart in action in the video below.
