Only a handful of shipbuilders across the globe construct wooden yachts. Now, you have a chance to own this custom build for $19.4 million.
The lavish Aquarius looks similar to other superyachts on the market, but there’s no steel or aluminum anywhere on the 147-foot triple decker, which is thought to be the largest wooden yacht built to date. The internal frames and beams are sapele and mahogany, while the rest of the boat is crafted from plywood—all of which last longer than steel, and make the yacht more flexible for manufacturing and repairs. The sleek outer shell is laminated and painted, with distinctive wooden decking onboard.
The interior boasts a master cabin with a bathroom, office, and dress room, which expand across an entire floor. There are also four guest cabins, a captain’s cabin, and three crew cabins; as well as a spa, gym, and a beach club to enjoy and relax in.
It also moves quickly. The Aquarius, built by Turkish company Megi Yay, can travel at 16.5 knots. “It is both economic and fast, as it is a lighter boat with the same machinery,” said Bahadir Sen of Mengi Yay. “The first boats sailing all around the world were made of wood. So, wooden boat building is as old as human history.”
