Neuroscientist Turns Brain Into Golden Work of Art

April 22, 2017 5:00 am

Credit artist/neuroscientist Dr. Greg Dunn and Dr. Brian Edwards with creating a truly beautiful mind.

Over nearly two years, the pair mapped the neurons in the brain for a series titled Self Reflected. Produced through a technique they term “reflective microetching,” the process creates images that glow with a metallic luminescence.

Then gold enters the equation. Besides documenting a slice of the brain, the images are coated in 22k gold leaf. Indeed, the series required a total of 1,750 sheets of it. The result: a mind that would leave Midas envious.
