We first introduced you to the “vertical forest” architectural concept from Italian firm Stefano Boeri Architetti (SBA) back in April. (To jog your memory, it was for a pair of apartment complexes in Milan, Italy; the group also proposed a second building in Lausanne, Switzerland.)

Now that the architectural firm has checked “residential buildings” off its list, it’s moved right into the hospitality space, unveiling its latest concept drawings for a massive hotel to be built in Guizhou, China (which ranked No. 44 on The New York Times‘ recent “52 Places to Go” list). The blueprints for the 400-acre Mountain Forest Hotel project, located in the Wanfeng Valley, has been produced for the Hong Kong–based Cachet Hotel Group. It includes 336,000 square feet of total space and 253 rooms.

The interior design contract will be shared between SBA and local artist Simon Ma. The hotel features a fitness center, lounge, swimming pool, spa, VIP area, bar, a pair of restaurant, and conference room. With the hotel’s design, SBA is looking to bring the surrounding landscape back to life, building it on a hill that was flattened years ago. In this sense, SBA will be resurrecting it with modern architecture.

Said SBA on its website: “Following the first prototype in Milan, then in Lausanne, the vertical forest is continuously consolidated as a model for a sustainable urbanization.”
