When asked about her boyfriend before being given an “official” question, Maria Izobel Taguiam, 17, clarified her sexual orientation.
“Yes but not a boyfriend but a girlfriend. Because I believe love does not see gender and if you love someone, go for it,” she said, according to a translation by BuzzFeed News.
Taguiam reportedly followed up on her answer this last week with the Cebu Daily News, and her comments went viral.
“I’m just proud to have her. I just want to tell people it is indeed okay to love someone regardless of gender,” she reportedly said of her girlfriend. “She’s someone worth loving, she has a beautiful soul.”
Though there isn’t verifiable video of the question, you can see Taguiam introduce herself and where she’s from in the video above. Take a look.
