Looking for an all-inclusive luxury camping experience in the woods for adults? The Point is here to help.
Nestled up in the Adirondacks, on the shores of Upper Saranac Lake near Lake Placid, The Point is the only Forbes Five-Star property in New York State located outside of New York City. It is about a five-hour-plus drive from Manhattan and just two and a half hours from Albany.
The Point features 11 guest rooms in four original log buildings.
Originally built by William Avery Rockefeller, Jr. a century ago, The Point has log cabins, but it isn’t exactly roughing it. It boasts fully stocked bars and employees devoted to making the trip everything you want it to be.
It is one of the most expensive hotels in the country, but the New York Post says it’s worth every penny. Not only does the hotel accommodate your every need but there are activities for every season.
Water skiing? Check. Snowshoeing for other times of year? Yes. Motorboats? Absolutely. Want to go to a four course black tie dinner or just order a pepperoni pizza directly to your room? Both are doable.
The 40 staff members may attention to every detail — including tending the fireplace in your room. Nightly meals are communal, though you can dine solo in your room.
Last June, a couple that frequented The Point for 25 years purchased the foreclosed hotel. Pierre Lapeyre and his wife Laurie invested millions in renovations, which includes updating the guest rooms and bathrooms.
A night costs $1,600, which includes activities and alcohol. For those that want an even more exclusive experience, they can reserve the whole property for $25,650 per night.
