The Broadway production of George Orwell’s novel ‘1984’ may star Olivia Wilde and Tom Sturridge—but it’s decidedly unglamorous.
There are reports of vomiting and fainting among audience members, spurred on by a production that features strobe lighting, jackhammer sounds, and scenes of torture. The show is still in previews on this side of the pond, but there were also reports of traumatized patrons during its previous run in London.
Even the cast has taken some lumps, with Wilde experiencing a broken tailbone, dislocated rib, and split-open lip.
