Mikhail Gorbachev Was a ‘Twin Peaks’ Superfan

Ex-Soviet president called producer Aaron Spelling to figure out plot twist.

With the Twin Peaks revival full-weird-ahead—and RCL’s guide to everything you need to know about the original—there’s enough material on David Lynch’s drama to spent 25 years binging in the Black Lodge.

But Great Big Story just added one last piece to the puzzle—and appropriately enough for plot twist heavy series, it involves former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.

Apparently, Gorby was such a Twin Peaks superfan in the late ’80s that he went to great lengths to get an answer to “Who killed Laura Palmer?” The world leader was so interested in spoiling it for himself that he had someone phone in the request to TV executive Aaron Spelling’s office—by way of U.S. President George H.W. Bush.
