While most of Wednesday’s late night television lineup focused on Donald Trump Jr.’s email scandal, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver took a different approach as a guest on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert: It “might be nothing.”

“This is something, as long as we live in a world where ‘something’ means anything. And I’m not sure we do anymore,” he told Colbert. “It seems serious, but do we live in a world devoid of consequences now?..That’s the kind of mind-blowing part. This seems like a seismic event, but it might be nothing.”

Oliver made the comments just two days after Donald Trump Jr. tweeted images of emails showing that he arranged a meeting with a Russian lawyer in 2016 after being offered dirt on Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“If it’s what you say I love it,” the President’s son wrote. “Especially later in the summer.”
