Last Week Tonight host John Oliver added his name to the growing list of people, including Republicans, who sharply criticized President Trump for refusing to directly condemn white nationalists following their “Unite the Right” protest over the weekend.

One person was killed and 19 people were injured on Saturday following clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia; the president condemned the “hatred, bigotry, and violence that’s on many sides,” following the violence, walking away from reporters who asked direct questions about white nationalism and supremacy.

“Wait, on many sides?!?” Oliver said in the opening segment of his show. “This was a white nationalist rally! You have to call that out by name!”

White supremacists, including former KKK grand wizard David Duke, praised the president before and after his remarks, with one neo-Nazi website writing:

“Trump comments were good. He didn’t attack us. He just said the nation should come together. Nothing specific against us…He said that we need to study why people are so angry, and implied that there was hate … on both sides! There was virtually no counter-signaling of us at all. He said he loves us all.”
