A freelance writer/blogger might get the last laugh in a lawsuit he filed against Conan O’Brien in 2015.
According to The New York Times, a federal judge has ordered O’Brien to appear in court to face joke-stealing allegations brought on by Alex Kaseberg, a blogger and freelance joke-writer, who claims O’Brien pilfered five monologue jokes from his blog over the court of more than a year.
The allegations stemming from two of the jokes were dismissed by the judge presiding over the case, but O’Brien must answer to the other three.
Among the jokes that O’Brien allegedly lifted was one about New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady back in 2015.
Here’s Kaseberg’s joke:
“Tom Brady said he wants to give his MVP truck to the man who won the game for the Patriots. So enjoy that truck, Pete Carroll.”
Here’s O’Brien’s monologue, which aired after the joke was posted:
“Tom Brady said he wants to give the truck that he was given as Super Bowl MVP … to the guy who won the Super Bowl for the Patriots. Which is very nice. I think that’s nice. I do. Yes. So Brady’s giving his truck to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.”
