Are you one of the 1.2 billion free Gmail users? Google will stop scanning your inbox for ad personalization at some point this year, TechCrunch is reporting. Up until now, anyone with a free account had their email routinely searched by the company to build a more accurate advertising profile off of the contents. Only business users who subscribed to G Suite services were protected from prying eyes.

But that’s about to change, according to Diane Greene, Google’s senior VP for Google Cloud. Greene reportedly said the decision was made because it “brings Gmail ads in line with how we personalize ads for other Google products.”
