You won’t need to tip this pizza delivery driver.
Autonomous robots will begin taking and delivering Domino’s pizza orders within the next two months in select cities in Germany and the Netherlands, Bloomberg reports.
“Robotic delivery units will complement our existing delivery methods, including cars, scooters and e-bikes,” said Don Meij, Domino’s Group CEO in a statement.
The company also announced its partnership with Starship Technologies, an Estonian-based robot start-up launched in July 2014 by two former Skype co-founders, Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis.
Starship’s battery-powered robots are sidewalk-only, with a maximum speed of four miles an hour, and can carry loads of up to 20 pounds. To be sure someone won’t nab the pizza, the robots will only open up their insulated cargo hold for those who have a code sent to their mobile phones.
