Women’s World Cup Hero Brandi Chastain Honored With Bizarre Hall of Fame Plaque

You could also say Chastain was dishonored by the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Some see Peter King. Other, Rex Ryan. And some even see the killer clown from It.

But unfortunately for Brandi Chastain, no one sees the face of the 1999 Women’s World Cup hero when they look at her just-unveiled bronze plaque at the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.

After the plaque was revealed, Chastain was polite. “It’s not the most flattering,” she said while standing on the stage. “But it’s nice.”

San Francisco Chronicle columnist, Ann Killion, who wrote the words that go with the caring, was not so diplomatic with her criticism.

Killion was referring to a bust of soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo that was ridiculed so much after its 2017 reveal that sculptor Emanuel Santos took another shot at it the following year.

It’s unclear if the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame will offer Chastain the same treatment.
