Back in June, a reporter jumped the gun in “announcing” that the Golden State Warriors had unanimously decided to skip a White House visit following their NBA championship win.
After the ensuing media frenzy, the Warriors were compelled to release their own statement, saying, “Today is about celebrating our championship. We have not received an invitation to the White House, but will make those decisions when and if necessary.”
It appears that the time for decision-making is nigh.
Although the team has still not been offered an invitation by President Trump, notes ESPN, Warriors coach Steve Kerr did provide some comment, finally: “We will meet as a team to discuss it and make a decision.”
Kerr, along with star players Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, have been highly critical of the president in the press. He’s reportedly met with them both, as well as some of their teammates, too. Of a potential decision he told ESPN: “There are a lot of different dynamics to this and different viewpoints. We’ve got players from all over the world and all over the country, and they’re going to have different perspectives, so I think it’s important for us all to get in a room and hash it out and decide what we want to do.”
