Winner of three in a row and eight of their last 10 as of Monday evening, the Milwaukee Brewers are leading the National League wild card race and are just a few games back of the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central.
The Brewers and those same Cubs began a three-game series, their last of the season, on Monday at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The series is vitally important for both clubs and could go a long in determining which one of them ultimately winds up taking first when all is said and done.
In terms of overall record, the Cubs and Brewers are also the top teams in the NL and the ones that, at this point, seem the best poised for a deep playoff run.
Currently trailing the Cubs in RealClearLife‘s Ultimate Power Rankings, which combine ratings from ESPN, CBS and USA Today to get a single rank for all 30 teams in MLB and use segmented tiers to arrange them, the Brewers could be ahead of the Cubs by this time next week as they’ve been ascending rapidly.
Of course, the Brew Crew’s gain is another club’s loss and there are a number of teams who are sinking like stones at the worst possible time.
