As part of the fallout from a scandal that has forced Donald Trump to shut down his embattled personal charity and to give away its remaining money, the president is being sacked of a signed Tim Tebow football helmet.

Amid allegations he used the foundation for his personal and political benefit, Trump will turn over a helmet the ex-Heisman winner wore when he was quarterbacking the Denver Broncos.

The helmet is one of three items owned by the Donald J. Trump Foundation; the other two are large portraits of Trump.

Trump bought the autographed helmet at a charity auction in 2012 for $12,000 and publicized the purchase by posing with it for gossip columns. In a 2016 story, The Washington Post revealed Trump used money from his foundation to buy the helmet, not his own cash.

The helmet and the portraits – which Trump used $42,000 in charity money to purchase – are now valued at a combined $975, according to a recent Internal Revenue Service filing.

In 2016 it was rumored Tebow would be speaking on Trump’s behalf at the Republican National Convention.

The current New York Met shot that rumor down. “It’s amazing how fast rumors fly, and that’s exactly what it is: A rumor,” he said. “My goal has always been to be able to make a difference in the biggest way possible, and if one day that’s a political realm then that’s what I’ll do. But right now I really believe that that’s through my foundation and our amazing partners and fighting for kids that can’t fight for themselves.”
