It’s been more than a decade since Tiger Woods won a major and, despite being 20th in the PGA Tour’s FedExCup playoff rankings, he has yet to win a tournament on the 2018 tour.
But, he’s getting close – or at least he thinks so.
At Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus in advance of the FedExCup playoffs teeing off on Thursday, Woods expressed optimism that his 80th career win was just around the corner.
“I feel like my next wins are coming soon. How soon I don’t know but I’m putting myself there in tournaments now,” the 42-year-old said. “I’ve done it two of the last three tournaments I’ve played and they were big events, so I’m not that far away from getting it done. I think if I keep giving myself opportunities, I’ll get the job done.”
Currently at 79 wins, Woods is only four wins away from breaking the record of 82 PGA Tour victories which is held by Sam Snead. With 14 major victories on his resume, Woods would need five more to pass Jack Nicklaus’ 18 major wins.
Interestingly enough, Woods is already considered one of the favorites to win the 2019 Masters and has been installed with 12-1 odds to win the tournament.
At 10-1, Jordan Spieth is the favorite to win in Augusta. Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas are tied with Woods at 12-1.Read the full story at Reuters
