Report: The Denver Broncos Are ‘All In’ on Kirk Cousins

The Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets are also expected to be in the mix for the quarterback.

When NFL free agency begins on March 14, Denver Broncos general manager John Elway will reportedly be “all in” on an attempt to bring 29-year-old quarterback Kirk Cousins into the fold.

To make sure they have enough fit the free-agent-to-be under the salary cap, the Broncos have been outlining scenarios that could potentially free up between $40 million and $50 million in space this offseason, two sources familiar with the Broncos’ plans for free agency told Yahoo Sports. Although Elway has publicly stated the team is going to “explore all options” when it comes to finding Denver’s next quarterback, Cousins has become the franchise’s top target, sources say.

The Broncos will have competition in landing Cousins’ services as the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and possibly even the Cleveland Browns are expected to make a bid to sign him to a deal. One sticking point in any potential negotiation is Cousins may be looking for a short-term contract (three or four years) with fully guaranteed money, a deal which would be financially secure and also theoretically give him the ability to negotiate a new pact while he’s still playing at a high level.

If the Broncos can meet Cousins’ demands in salary and term (before another franchise does), and sell him on the culture of the Mile High City, Denver will come away with biggest free agent quarterback signing since the team inked Peyton Manning in the 2012 offseason.
