On Saturday, a day after a pair of Miami Dolphins wide receivers took a knee during the National Anthem ahead of the team’s preseason opener, several police unions in South Florida launched their own all-out blitz. Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson knelt during the Star-Spangled Banner to protest police violence against African Americans, while defensive end Robert Quinn raised his fist in the air during the song.
In response, the Broward County Police Benevolent Association revoked a ticket partnership with the team over what the union viewed as disrespect towards “First Responders and the dangers they put themselves in every day.”
“We entered into this partnership with the understanding that the Dolphins organization would require their players to stand for the national anthem. This did not happen at last night’s preseason game against Tampa Bay,” the union wrote on its Facebook page.
The Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association posted a similar message on its own Facebook page.
