NY Jets Open to Trading No. 3 Pick in NFL Draft to NY Giants

It would be the first time Gotham's football squads have made a trade since 1983.

A year after sending the Indianapolis Colts three second-round picks to move up from sixth to third in the 2018 NFL draft, the New York Jets could be looking to move back down the board from the No. 3 spot.

The reason for that is the Jets selected quarterback Sam Darnold at No. 3 last year and feel confident he can develop into a franchise cornerstone.

Coincidentally, the team drafting at No. 6 this year is the New York Giants and, all due respect to Eli Manning, they need a young quarterback.

So, if history were to repeat itself, the Jets at No. 3 could swap picks with the Giants at No. 6 and pick up a haul of later-round picks in the process.

Speaking at the NFL scouting combine, Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan did not throw cold water on that scenario happening when asked specifically about the Giants.

“Right now, we feel good at No. 3, but I’d definitely say if there’s an opportunity to trade down, we would absolutely look at it,” he said. “Yeah, I think I would be open to any team that would. As long as the trade made sense to us, there’s nothing that would stop us from doing that.”

If NYC’s football team do work out a swap, it would be the first time the local rivals have made a trade since 1983.

Should they stick at No. 3, the Jets will likely select a non-quarterback like defensive end Nick Bosa, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams or outside linebacker Josh Allen.
