As part of a larger move toward peace on the Korean Peninsula, North and South Korea are pursuing a joint bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
Representatives from both countries announced their intentions at a news conference Wednesday in Pyongyang, although details such as which cities would host events were revealed.
The Olympics were held on the peninsula earlier this year when South Korea hosted the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang and the countries fielded a unified team made up of athletes from both nations.
The Summer Games were last held on the peninsula when Seoul hosted the 1988 competition.
In addition to North and South Korea, bidders for the 2032 games include Brisbane, Australia, and Germany.
Tokyo (2020), Paris (2024) and Los Angeles (2028) are slated to host the next three Summer Olympics, while Beijing will host the next Winter Olympics in 2022.
