Neymar da Silva Santos Jr., a professional soccer player, is often lumped in with Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo as the three best in the sport. But, he’s entering his prime as the other two leave theirs, opening the path for Neymar to be on a level of his own.
At 25 years old, the Brazilian forward hasn’t been FIFA Player of the YEar nor has he been the star of his team. Both are considered a rarity for an athlete as talented Neymar, Sports Illustrated reports. He’s had to share the roster at FC Barcelona with Messi—until now, that is.
According to Sports Illustrated, Neymar is expected to be traded away from his club in Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain. The $600 million deal would make Neymar the highest paid soccer player in the world (passing Ronaldo and Messi), Forbes reports.
Once the buzz from the trade dies down, the young Brazilian will get to work for his national team. Neymar hasn’t won Brazil a World Cup, arguably the last true feat he’s yet to achieve. He tells Sports Illustrated that he expects the next twelve months, until the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia, to be his toughest yet.
