Philly’s Special: 76ers Advance in Playoffs for First Time Since 2012

The Warriors also advanced and the Celtics took a 3-2 lead in their series.

The 76ers didn’t win the NBA championship last night, but you would never have known it from seeing the champagne flowing in the locker room after Philadelphia beat the Miami Heat 104-91 to advance to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs for the first time since 2012.

With Meek Mill in the house, the Process completed its next step on Tuesday night behind 19 points and 12 rebounds from Joel Embiid and 14 points and 10 boards from Ben Simmons.

“We all got a taste of it with the Eagles, we all got a taste of it with Villanova’s tremendous win,” said Sixers coach Brett Brown. “You feel it with the city from afar. Everybody is excited to be a part of, what I think, is playing out to be a cool story.”

During the first game of the evening in Boston, the Celtics took care of the Bucks 92-87 following back-to-back losses to Milwaukee. Al Horford had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Green and guard Marcus Smart returned to the court for the first time since mid-March and made an impact on the game with his hustle. The winner of the series will take on Philly.

In the final game of the night In Oakland, San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich remained away from the team following the death of his wife and the Spurs were eliminated from the postseason by the Warriors 99-91. Golden State will open the Western Conference semifinals against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday.

Tonight in a four-contest slate of Game 4s and Game 5s, the Wizards will look to win on the road for the first time in their 2-2 series with the Raptors, Indiana will look to take a lead in their 2-2 series on the road against the Cavs, the Jazz will try to close out the Thunder in Oklahoma City and the Rockets will attempt to do the same thing against the Timberwolves in Houston.
