Kayaking Down Namibian Sand Dunes

First, there was snowboarding in the desert. Now, there’s kayaking on sand as well. 22-year-old Eric Walter brought his kayak to Namibia’s sand dunes to see how it would fare. The sand doesn’t allow for much maneuvering, so he was limited to hitting the dunes in a straight line down. “I was curious to find out how fast I could go,” Walter explains, “and you can actually get quite a lot of speed! I think I went around 60 kilometers per hour.” (That’s 37.3 mph.) The German kayaker was joined by his paragliding friends Tim Alongi, Jean-Baptiste Chandelier, and Cyrille Marck, who make cameo appearances in the video below.
