After failing in the NFL and bottoming out in the CFL, Johnny Manziel will be returning to pro football with the Alliance of American Football’s Memphis Express.

And, despite his troubles on the gridiron since leaving Texas A&M, the 2012 Heisman winner remains confident he can play football at all levels.

Manziel was drafted by the San Antonio Commanders, but he was awarded to the Express, who are a league-worst 1-5, after San Antonio declined to sign him.

That hasn’t wavered the belief Manziel has in himself.

“My confidence level is high,” Manziel said. “I believe I still have a unique skill set and still have the ability to play at any level anywhere. I’ve done a lot of soul searching and a lot of looking at myself in the mirror and coming to the realization that when I’m on a football field and on a team, my life is substantially better.”

As a starter last season with the Montreal Alouettes, Manziel went 2-6 and completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 1,290 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Despite those lackluster numbers, Express coach Mike Singletary is happy to have “Johnny Football” in the fold.

“Our guys are excited, our team is excited and I feel that many of the people here in Memphis are excited,” Singletary said.
