Ice Climbers Tackle Canada’s Frozen Helmcken Falls

It might surprise you to learn that the most difficult ice climbing site in the world is in Canada (well, provided you’ve never endured a Canadian winter). Specifically, it’s Helmcken Falls in British Columbia, which is one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. The spray kicked up by the falls freezes into steep walls and roofs of ice which are nigh impossible to climb.

Naturally, climbers Tim Emmett and Klemen Premrl had to try. Equipped with a trusty GoPro to film the stunt, the two navigate a landscape that looks more like Hoth than anything you’d find on this planet. The eerie beauty of the snowy falls and light reflecting from spear-like icicles is something that only a GoPro, and people crazy enough to test its limits, could ever capture on film.
