Amari Cooper’s third touchdown catch of the game gave the Dallas Cowboys a 29-23 overtime win over the Philadelphia Eagles and a commanding lead in the NFC East.

But, had a controversial call on Philly tight end Dallas Goedert and another one earlier in the game gone the other way, the matchup may not even have gone to overtime.

With the Eagles trailing 23-16 in the fourth, quarterback Carson Wentz hit  Goedert with a 75-yard touchdown pass. But, a pass interference flag thrown near the point of the catch close to midfield negated the score.

The Eagles did eventually tie the game up, but the whole game script would have changed had Goedert’s score not been taken off the board by the odd call.

The officials also appeared to blow another call to start the game, this one bad enough to draw the ire of defensive back Malcolm Jenkins following the last whistle.

Jenkins was mad that after Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis fumbled the opening kickoff and was ruled down with the Eagles recovering the ball. On review, the replay showed Lewis clearly was not down but also determined there was no clear recovery of the football.

Jenkins did not care for the ruling of the explanation he received.

“That was a pretty terrible call,” Jenkins said. “They reviewed it and the explanation I got was that it wasn’t a clear recovery, although Kamu had the ball in his hand and there was only Eagles defenders on the ball in replay.

“So whoever’s watching that in New York should stay off the bottle.”
