They likely don’t need it, but the Golden State Warriors are getting reinforcements.

Out since tearing his Achilles tendon as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans last season, DeMarcus Cousins is targeting January 18 to make his debut for Golden State.

If that date holds up, Cousins will play for the first time this season against the Los Angeles Clippers.

While discussing the big man, Golden State coach Steve Kerr said  Cousins has made “big strides” in his rehab and conditioning over the past week.

“I would say the last two scrimmages that he’s had,” Kerr said. “It’s looked to us and it’s felt to him that he has broken through a barrier. And we were waiting for that barrier. So that he’s through that barrier, and assuming everything goes well the next week or two, that’s sort of the idea to get him in some time that week.”

Cousins, 28, signed a one-year, $5.3 million deal with Golden State in July.

He’s hoping to help Golden State win a third straight title and then land a big extension or sign a max deal with a new team this summer.
