Conor McGregor Arrested in Miami for Allegedly Smashing Fan’s Cellphone

The 30-year-old McGregor was charged with robbery and criminal mischief following his arrest.

Instead of smashing an opponent, Conor McGregor allegedly turned his attention to a fan’s cellphone on Monday outside a Miami Beach hotel.

Accused of stealing the phone – which was valued at $1,000 – and smashing it after the fan was taking pictures, the UFC star is being charged with felony strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

The Monday incident happened outside the Fontainebleau, which is home to prominent Miami night club LIV. It was captured on surveilance video and, after reviewing the recording, police decided to arrest the 30-year-old Irish brawler.

Florida attorney David Weinstein told USA TODAY Sports that authorities “loaded him up on the charges when they arrested him.”

“Technically it’s a strong-armed robbery, but in reality it’s more like a battery and a grand theft,” Weinstein said.

“Last evening Conor McGregor was involved a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement,” McGregor’s attorneys said in a statement on the arrest. “Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”

McGregor, who has a local address in the area, is already out of custody after posting $12,500 bail late Monday night.

The former featherweight and lightweight champion is still suspended from UFC for a brawl after his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October.
