The next time you find yourself camping or hiking along a body of water, you might want to have a Pakayak at the ready. For the uninitiated, a Pakayak is exactly what it sounds like: a kayak that you wear as a backpack.

Founded by a Connecticut-based team of adventure enthusiasts, the idea behind Pakayak was to build a “rigid boat that was portable, light, and easy to store; yet long, sleek, and fast.” They worked on a prototype for two-and-a-half years before starting a Kickstarter campaign for their product, which is now 128 percent funded.

The kayak itself is made up of six disconnecting sections, which pack inside one another like a Russian nesting doll to create a three-and-a-half-foot, 55-pound bundle. It can be assembled in under five minutes.

Its first model is a 14-foot touring kayak called the Bluefin 14. Expected retail price is $1,695. For more information on the Pakayak, or to pre-order one, click here. Watch a teaser video on the product at the bottom.
