How Bradley Cooper Became an Eagles Icon

This isn't just about "Silver Linings Playbook."

In 2012, seven years since the Philadelphia Eagles last blew their chance at winning a Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, Philadelphia native and Hollywood superstar Bradley Cooper starred in a movie called Silver Linings Playbook. Cooper played obsessed Eagles fan Pat Solitano, a former teacher with bipolar disorder. He received an Oscar nomination for the role, and cemented his place on the A-list. Philadelphia also got some much needed positive attention. Fast-forward to today, where the Eagles are back in the Super Bowl, with Cooper carrying the ceremonial celebrity fan torch. He has been seen at playoffs games, he’s done voice-overs for Eagles hype videos — he even played the role of the infamous snowball in a clip with Santa — and worn Eagles gear on all possible occasions.

But Cooper didn’t become an Eagles fan because of Silver Linings. His dad got him into sports when he was young. Though he appeared to hide where he was from while he spent years growing his stardom — granted, Philly does have a reputation — it was in 2011 that he really showed the world that he was a huge fan of all things Philadelphia. Cooper always wears hats that promote the films he’s in, and in 2011, he started to wear a white, fitted baseball cap with an Eagles logo in public. He was seen wearing it on dozens of occasions. But when the movie came out, the hat remained. The Ringer says he has it on in about 80 percent of occasions he’s been photographed. And in 2011, Cooper was voted People’s Sexiest Man Alive, which basically means, that the sexiest man alive is an Eagles fan.
