Are Antonio Brown and the Steelers Nearing a Nasty Divorce?

It will probably amount to nothing, but something is rotten in Pittsburgh between the Steelers and Antonio Brown.

On Sunday, Brown – clad in a fur coat – sat out a game the Steelers needed to win to have a shot at a spot in the playoffs with a knee injury.

Or so we were told.

Later, reports emerged Brown missed the game because the team had refused to allow him to play after he skipped practices last week following an altercation with a teammate.

Turns out that mystery teammate was quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Brown “was disgusted and threw a football” at his veteran QB following a disagreement during a routine walk-through practice.

Brown, who finished the season with 104 catches for 1,297 yards and an NFL-best 15 touchdowns in 15 games, was also a no-show on Monday during the team’s final meetings.

On Tuesday, it was reported Brown requested a trade from the Steelers, but further reports suggest Brown didn’t demand a trade but did wonder aloud why the Steelers don’t trade him following last week’s incident with Roethlisberger.

However, despite the drama, a trade of Brown seems unlikely as the Steelers would absorb a $21.12 million dead-money cap hit if they dealt the 30-year-old prior to June 1.

A trade after June 1 seems somewhat more likely as the would be able to save over $15.1 million, but it still seems like Brown will be sticking around thanks to his talent.

Also, Roethlisberger wants him back.

“He is such an incredible talent, and I’ve been blessed to have him as my teammate and truly a good friend, one of my better friends on the team …” Roethlisberger said during his weekly 93.7 The Fan radio show on Tuesday.
