Davis could be looking to team up with LeBron after leaving New Orleans.

Unlike his signature eyebrow, Anthony Davis’s relationship with the New Orleans Pelicans appears to be broken.

The NBA superstar has asked his agent to request a trade out of New Orleans, possibly eyeing a team-up with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship,” Rich Paul of Klutch Sports told ESPN. “Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that’s the reason for informing them of this decision now. That’s in the best interests of both Anthony’s and the organization’s future.”

The NBA trade deadline on February 7 is fast approaching, so the timing of the requests gives the Lakers and the rest of the NBA time to get offers together for the 25-year-old star.

The terms of his current contract allow Davis to become a free agent in July 2020, so any team that trades for him will have to confident he will be willing to re-sign. Therefore, Davis has some degree of control about where he is dealt (if he is).

“By making the demand now, Davis, the All-Star big man, has established the Los Angeles Lakers as the overwhelming favorite to acquire him – but only if the Pelicans are willing to deal him before the league’s Feb. 7 trade deadline,” according to the New York Times.

Davis, who is currently sidelined with a fracture in his left index finger, is averaging 29.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game this season.
