Indianapolis Colts general manager showed up to the press conference that was entirely different from the one he expected. Instead of introducing Josh McDaniels as the new head coach of the franchise, Ballard had to explain to reporters why New England’s longtime offensive coordinator backed out on a deal he had initially accepted. Ballard was clearly bitter about the decision, as shown through the occasional glare and strong pitch in his voice, writes The Guardian, but he made it extra clear when he said “The rivalry is back on,” before leaving. But the Colts are not the only ones upset with McDaniels’ decision. His agent, Bob LaMonte has cut ties with McDaniels. He told Sports Business Journal, “My word is my bond. Once you break that, there’s nothing left.” He also said that McDaniels’ change of hear was equal to “committing professional suicide.” It is unclear where the Colts will go from here, since their other candidates are now taken. The other finalist, Mike Vrabel signed with Tennessee, while Mike Nagy has been hired in Chicago, and Baylor coach Matt Rhule is back on campus getting ready for spring football. They do have several possibilities, including Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who was part of a Super Bowl win over the Patriots with a backup quarterback.
