MIT Researchers Create Shape-Shifting Material

Imagine if your tire treads automatically changed shape to better handle the road or your running shoes morphed to better grip the track. That’s what MIT researchers are hoping to make possible. They’ve made layers of inflatable silicone bladders that can be programmed to react to data or touch—or change function altogether.
